I get asked all of the time from guys and mom’s “What should I wear for my Senior Guy Pictures?” So, that’s what we’re talking about this week on the blog.
Senior guys pictures can be just as fun and exciting as girls pictures, in fact, I’m SUPER excited for an upcoming ice hockey players session and his Mustang! But what should guys wear in their session? Mom wants more than just a tshirt and jeans and he doesn’t want to get out of his gym shorts and sweatshirt. Let’s chat. It doesn’t have to be painful.
Unlike my generation’s senior pictures, today’s Senior photo sessions are about the Senior. It showcases their hobbies, their interests, their personalities and it makes the session…Unique!
Senior Picture Ideas
I like to chat with the Seniors and their Moms (or dad) prior to the day of the shoot. First, we discuss the senior’s hobbies, their likes, their interests and if they are involved in any sports and or clubs at school. With the info from both parent and the Senior I start suggesting ideas for clothing options and I share my Pinterest page for more ideas. I also send you a location guide to give you some ideas of local places that are great to shoot at. Sometimes it helps to see an actual person in the location to be able to picture yourself there.
Outfit 1– The first outfit is usually what Mom likes the senior in and that is typically a nice clean cut look. We tend to use this look first as it is usually not something that they typically would dress in. We make this portion short and to the point. And it’s easier to get the uncomfortableness out in that outfit. We’ll get some smiling pics for mom, because that’s what she wants and then we’ll move on to outfit #2.
Outfit 2– The second outfit is the fun option. This second choice is the one that will bring out their personality. This is the outfit that the Senior Guy has the most input on from colors to styles to overall look. For some it may be khaki pants and a polo shirt for others it may be basketball shorts and a t-shirt. Whatever your choice, we’ll make it work and have some fun.
Outfit 3– Something a little nicer. This could be a button down with jeans or a full out tux. Whatever you feel comfortable in. it’s nice to have a few images in something a little more formal. I recently had a young man in jeans, a white button down and a bow tie. What’s your style?
Tips for Senior Guys
Add Something Fun
Add their favorite sneaker or converse shoe and maybe a hat or something fun to their senior outfit.
Don’t wear clothing with tags/logos/large pictures
I suggest not to wear clothing with name brand tags or logos and nothing with large pictures. You will want these images to be classic and stand the test of time.
Add in props!
Do you play a sport or instrument? Bring the football, baseball, trumpet or drums. Showcasing what you do is part of what makes you unique!
Truck or Cars
If they don’t do a sport or club maybe they want their car or truck in the shot. Sometimes your vehicle is your baby. Sometimes, it’s just a mode of transportation. Either way, wheels make for some cool pictures.
No matter your personality or style, senior guy pictures can be a fun and memorable experience. Not only for the senior, but for the parent and family for years to come.
