In mid-September, this Central PA Photographer had the opportunity to go to California for a one day photography conference. When I mentioned it to my daughters, they told me I couldn’t go without them, so we made it a vacation. We crammed a TON into the 4 days that we were there and checked off many things on my bucket list! It certainly is a beautiful state and we only saw part of it.
We started on Wednesday in Los Angeles. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. 75 and sunny. We rented a little car that you’ll see later in this blog and drove all around LA. We tried going up close to the Hollywood sign but didn’t quite make it before we needed to head to the beach for pictures at sunset.
We chose Santa Monica beach and pier for our next stop and it did not disappoint. What a beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean. I’ve seen the Atlantic Ocean MANY times in my life, but this was my first time to see the Pacific.
It was really windy and got chilly as the sun went down, but having our feet in the ocean and sand made it all ok. I don’t think that there is any place more beautiful than the beach. God certainly went above and beyond when He created beaches. This Central PA Photographer’s favorite place is the beach. I don’t think I’ve ever not liked the beach! We ate at a little dive bar type place on the Santa Monica Pier and then went for a walk. Brielle almost got taken out by a drunk guy trying REALLY hard to be sober and walk straight, but he was failing miserably. 🙂
We finally made it up the hills to the Hollywood sign and saw some beautiful, HUGE houses on our way. I’m not sure how I would’ve made it in a stick shift car. Man, there were lots of curves!
On Thursday afternoon, we drove 6 hours from Los Angeles to Granite Bay, CA. The drive was beautiful. I felt like I was in PA on some of the interstates, but instead of beautiful green, it was brown and dry. Yet somehow, just as beautiful.
On Friday, the girls hung at the pool in the morning, even though it was a chilly 65 degrees while I attended the conference. We learned all about the two hosts ways of photographing and posing their high school seniors and then in the afternoon, we went outside and put into action what we had learned. These girls in the pictures are all high school seniors from California that modeled for us. How cool is their job for the day?
As a Central PA Photographer, I was blown away at the weather there. It was absolutely perfect. Mid to high 70’s and VERY little humidity! YES PLEASE!
After the conference on Friday, we drove 2 hours to San Francisco. That night we pretty much crashed and got up on Friday to play tourist. We drove to Fisherman’s Warf and saw Alcatrez Island and the Sea Lions at Pier 39. We could’ve spent hours there watching them yell at each other and sleep and swim. They were so cute!
Next we drove to Baker Beach to get some pictures of the San Francisco Bay Bridge. Not a cloud in the sky. What a beautiful location to check another item off of my bucket list; seeing the bridge.
Our last stop before heading to the Oakland Airport was to see the Painted Ladies. Or the Full House House as most of us know it! We wanted to ride on a trolley but they were all shut down for maintenance! The park across from the houses was full of people picnicking and hanging out! you can also see our little Kia in these pictures!
While we enjoyed our time in California, we were glad to be back home. Funny how that works, isn’t it? The time change and red eye flight took it’s toll on us and we spent Monday relaxing. Back at work and school on Tuesday and all of the “How was your vacation” questions.
I’d go back anytime anyone needs a travel buddy! What a beautiful state!
As a Central PA Photographer, I spent some time out there working on my Class of 2021 majorSENIORS Crew info so if you know someone that would be interested, send them to the Info Page on my site.
