Lebanon Family Pictures
In June, I was contacted by Melissa to photograph her Grandmother’s 108th Birthday Party. That’s right, I said 108. Capturing Lebanon Family Pictures for this beautiful family was more fun than I could’ve imagined. I thought for sure Melissa had mistyped when she wrote 108, but she hadn’t! The gathering was at a place in Lebanon called Brasenhill Manor. This place is historic and absolutely gorgeous.
When I first walked in, Melissa introduced me to Virginia. Virginia is a beautiful, red haired girl with a wonderful vocabulary and even better hugging skills. She’s a hugger and I was blessed to be the recipient of one of those hugs, right as I was introduced. Melissa then introduced me to the woman of the hour! While her hearing may have decreased, she was alert and spunky and not at all what I expected in a 108 year old woman. She needed help to stand, but once she had her walker in hand, she was off!
We started out taking some family pictures in the sun room. All of the children and grandkids and Great grandkids.
As the family took it’s turn posing with Grandma, she sat and smiled and smiled and smiled. She seemed to be so happy to have all of her family around her. What a blessing it must’ve been for her to have this special day!
Some of the family gathered in great room to chat and relax while the daughter’s prepared the meal. Grandma’s drink of choice was apparently a chocolate martini, so Melissa made a beautiful glass for each person, EVEN cutie Virginia.
I gotta say, the martinis looked amazing as did the crab cakes and table in general. The family did an amazing job.
My favorite part was when the blessing was over, Grandma pipped up and said “Now that you’re all quiet and can hear me, I’d like to thank you all for giving me the BEST birthday EVER!”. That really struck me because in 108 years, the best birthday she had was this one where her family was beside her and came together for her!
Last Monday, her grandson, Jeff, emailed me and asked me to re-load his grandmother’s gallery to the online gallery because they had recently lost her. I have to say, my heart sunk. She was the oldest woman I had ever met and held more life and spunk in her tiny body than I do at 40. I was blessed to be a small part of her birthday and even more blessed to have captured the memories for her family forever.
To her family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you in your loss. Thank you for allowing me to capture this special day!
